TINY TENNIS 2-4 YEARS
Optima Tiny Tennis classes are the ideal way to introduce young children (2-4 years) into the sport.
I teach basic technique but the real emphasis is on fun games & drills that help develop co-ordination, balance & agility.
We practise lots of underarm & overarm throwing which is great practice for hitting serves & groundstrokes. The children have a great time & learn skills that provide a great foundation for not only tennis but a whole host of other sports.
One of the key benefits of starting tennis at this age is that it provides the building blocks for learning basic tactics & technique which can be used in Mini Tennis, the child-friendly version of the real game for ages 5-10 years.
During the winter classes take place at Grappenhall Community Centre on Bellhouse Lane. They run weekly in term time on Saturday mornings. I hope to start a Wednesday morning class in the near future. so please let me know if this is of interest.
MINI TENNIS 5-11 YEARS
Mini Tennis focuses more on tennis skills. All the improtant shots are taught along with basic tactics. When the children are strong enough, they learn how to play points in readiness for competitions that they might want to play.
There are three categories: Red (ages 5-8), Orange (ages 8-9) & Green ages 10-11) although these are meant to be a guide only. Each stage uses a low compression ball & smaller courts to make learning & playing easier.
Children who are keen can progress to low key starter tournaments where they can pit their skills against similar standard players.
JUNIOR TENNIS 11+ YEARS
Older children play on full sized courts with yellow (normal) balls. I teach more advanced shots & tactics at this level as the game is starting to resemble adult tennis.
